Vichy Republicanism - Warning Strong Language

by Andrew T. Hartford on Friday, September 27, 2013 10:05 AM
The GOP will not survive if leadership caves on Defunding ObamaCare.   The base is demanding a fight.  Ted Cruz isn't creating a problem, he's giving voice to the what the base thinks and wants.  John Boehner, John McCain, Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn and all other Vichy Republican turn coats take note; the demise of the party will lie squarely on your shoulders should you cave.
A word of warning to the new Vichy - establishment republicans.
You are making the mistake that all establishment republicans make, of assuming the burden of making things work.   That sets up a classic co-dependency: the Democrats get what they want, and the GOP makes it work.

Enough.   I could quote Oncken & monkeys, but you wouldn't understand it anyway.  Obamacare is not the camel's nose of government oppression inching in under the tent.  It's a whole head & neck and front forequarter coming in with hump and the rest to follow shortly.  I do not want to share my tent with a camel and all the fleas & ticks that come with it.  I don't care if the camel runs away & drags my tent to the horizon.  I'm gonna beat the fucking camel as hard as I can with anything I can get my hands on.  I'm not sharing my tent with a goddamned camel.   I'd rather live alone and on my own in the desert, thank you very much.

Or at least that's the way a great big bunch of Americans and a majority of the GOP base sees it.  This is a lot bigger than just parliamentary maneuver.  This is the whole goddamned ballgame to a whole fucking lot of people.

And do not expect the GOP to survive if leadership caves without having passed out on the canvass from over exertion against the weight of the Obama machine upon its neck.   The GOP as we know it is at serious risk here.  The base is demanding a fight.  Cruz isn't creating a problem.  He's just giving voice to the what the base thinks and wants.

Yes, government will, sadly, survive a shutdown.  Yes, Obamacare will probably have funding by Halloween.  But this coming fight is going to define the future of the GOP.   Mark my words.   Red & purple state Republicans who do not go down fighting will be furiously dogged for the rest of their careers.  Obama is trying to redefine the relationship between the American people and their government.  Long odds for a GOP victory, for sure, but is tyranny really so attractive that we must embrace it for the greater good?   Sadly, that is the argument that GOP leadership is making.

It's Free GOP or Vichy GOP.   Make your pick.
